President

Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, Ludhiana.

It is really a matter of pride for us that Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College has completed its centenary. Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College started in India in 1953. The admission process in 1953 started in the make-shift tents, though later the college was housed in a rented building. S. Jit Singh Chawla, GianiLal Singh, GianiRaghbirsingh and GianiHarjit Singh were the pioneers who invested their whole being in the college and played crucial role in the establishment of the college in Ludhiana. With the passage of time it began to assume new features, new forms and became all set to launch new programmes and ambitious plans in order to keep pace with the changing times. The Humanities and Science (Non-Medical) streams remained part of the imparted instructions right from the start. Khalsa Educational Council (Gujranwala) always foresaw the challenges which confronted higher education in Punjab keeping in mind the growing needs of society, degree course in commerce was added later which continues to be the envy of many an institutions in the region.

In order to give a new dimensions to the college, the council introduced the Masters’ Programme in Punjabi, English and Commerce which have attained instant popularity. As of today these Postgraduate Departments have registered hundred percent pass results. With the introduction of Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Application and Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and M.Sc Chemistry an auspicious beginning has been made to introduce more such courses in the near future. The college has very competent, dedicated, painstaking faculty members who work hard to bring out the hidden potentials of the students under the valuable, dynamic leadership and inspirational guidance of Principal Dr. Arvinder Singh.

The council motivates and inspires its teachers to pursue higher academic goals by generously granting them study leave ranging from one to three years under the faculty improvement programme of the University Grants Commission. We rightly feel proud of the faculty members who have distinguished themselves in academics and raised the banner of the college at national and international conferences. Thus Khalsa Education Council (Gujranwala) Ludhiana is all set to lead the community into the new millennium.

We really wish for the continuous progress and development of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College. May it grow beyond imagination!
